The expo was officially launched on Friday afternoon by the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Wu Peng, the High Commissioner of India H.E. Rahul Chhabra and NMG Group Chief Executive Officer Mr Stephen Gitagama.
Indo-Chinese influence in Kenya goes back centuries and the expo provided a great platform to showcase this cultural fusion.
The three-day expo was a fusion of Indian and Chinese food and culture. Visitors immersed themselves in sights and sounds as they indulged in gastronomic delights from the various vendors at the expo. From the Chinese Restaurant with a contemporary European Flair- Mr. Yao to the Northern Indian cuisine restaurant Haandi.
The discounted price of food at the Expo allowed visitors to sample a range of oriental dishes- from delectable Dim Sums at the Xiang Restaurant stand, Pani Puris from Chowpaty, sweet and savoury rolls at the Hui Panari booth, purple tea by Chinya Tea, pakoras from Ashoka Fun Shop authentic Punjabi curries and the centuries old tradition of marinated meat cooked in tandoors, Shiminya and Taro rolls.
China’s Tsingtao Beer is the country’s most internationally recognized beer and is available in over 70 countries worldwide.
The well-hopped standard pale lager is available in Kenya and those who visited their stand understood why it is still so popular in its native China.
The Nation Media Group, through PISHI, promises more delectable food expos so watch out for them!.
